Here is a Yahoo Mobile Developer's Conference hackathon winner. Get great information, not ads and commercial locations. "Wiki Where" shows you what is around you on your phone and on your Android Wear watch.
Be smart, get the facts. This app finds your current location and contacts Wikipedia to get up to 10 pages in a 10 KM circle around where you are. You can get walking directions from the app and then visit anything from the list. Get Wikipedia out of the search box and into your everyday world.
On a watch, swipe through pictures of nearby sites from Wikipedia. Double tap your Smart Watch to start walking directions to that location without touching the phone. Of course, a watch is not required - the phone has a complete set of features including navigation.
On your phone, view the Wikipedia page photos in a summary list or swipe through the detail view with a tap on an entry in the scrolling list. Go to that web page on Wikipedia or tap the arrow to get walking directions. Type in a location to show the Wikipedia search results for any place in the world. Switch over and view those places on a map.
You can set the search rules and change the number of results in the Settings screen. Use the menu to get to Wikipedia's photo of the day or the featured story of the day.
This app is ad-driven. Your personal information is safe - Wiki Where does not share your location or any personal information.
